William Hill , Britains number 1 betting house has just gained entry into the lucrative US gambling market by way of a license from the Nevada Gaming Commission. The Nevada Gaming Comission awarded the license despite Gaming Comissioner Tony Alamo’s reservations about William Hills joint venture with PlayTech and its controversial founder Teddy Sagi.
With the license now in place, William Hill will spend $55m (£35m) acquiring three sports books ; Brandywine Bookmaking, American Wagering, and Cal Neva, which it announced in early February. There are currently about 180 bookies in vegas and this will give William Hill a 55% hold over the betting businesses in Las Vegas.
Ralph Topping, chief executive of William Hill was quoted as saying “We are delighted to have been awarded our licence to operate in Nevada. This now enables us to establish William Hill’s first-ever US operation.”
Other Bookmakers who have secured the lucrative Nevada license are Bally Technologies and IGT.
